Santa Monica’s Best Public Elementary Schools


​​​​​​​There are eight elementary schools in the Santa Monica area:

  • Edison Language Academy. Located at 2402 Virginia Avenue, Edison Language Academy is a Dual Immersion Elementary School, meaning all students preschool through 5th grade learn in both Spanish and English. Their diverse and challenging program has been named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Franklin Elementary School. Franklin is on 2400 Montana Ave. and teaches kids K-5th grade. It’s been ranked 10/10 for test scores, 9/10 for diversity, and has an overall Niche.com grade of A+.
  • Grant Elementary School. Grant is located on 2368 Pearl St., is for K-5th grade students, and has been rated #77 out of 5,9191 public elementary schools in California.
  • John Muir Elementary School. The K-5th students at John Muir are encouraged to build strong relationships with their teachers to achieve academic excellence. The school has been given an overall A- rating by Niche.com and is located at 2526 6th St.
  • McKinley Elementary. As a three-time recipient of the California Title I Academic Achievement Award, McKinley is dedicated to excellence. It is located at 2401 Santa Monica Blvd. and is rated as the 82nd best public school for teachers in California.
  • Roosevelt Elementary. With a student-to-teacher ratio of 24:1, Roosevelt is a highly rated elementary school with an overall A rating from Niche.com. It is located at 801 Montana Ave.
  • Will Rogers Learning Community. An International Baccalaureate Candidate School, Will Rogers is dedicated to high achievement. It is located on 2401 14th St. and is a STEM-focus school.
  • ​​​​SMASH Alternative School. Serving kids K-8, SMASH is located on 2525 Fifth St. It emphasizes “non-authoritarian, non-competitive, non-sexist” methods of teaching and learning.

Santa Monica’s Best Public Middle Schools

Santa Monica has two public middle schools to choose from:


  • John Adams Middle School. Serving kids in 6-8th grades, John Adams is located at 2425 16th St and has achieved an overall A rating from Niche.com.
  • ​​​​​Lincoln Middle School. Ranked #18 for the best middle school teachers in California, Lincoln Middle School is located at 1501 California Ave. and teaches kids in grades 6, 7, and 8.


 

Santa Monica’s Best Public High Schools

There are two public high schools for those with kids in 9-12th grades. If you have teenagers, knowing which school you’d like to send your kids to can help begin your home search. Once again, if you don’t have kids, you can’t lose out on buying near one of these two public high schools. 


  • Santa Monica High School. It’s ranked the 36th best public high school in California by Nice.com.
  • ​​​​​​​Olympic High School. An alternative high school for students who are behind in academic credits, Olympic High School has only 140 students and is located at 721 Ocean Park Blvd.


Santa Monica’s Best Private Schools

Santa Monica luxury real estate buyers should consider the location of several excellent private schools when making a purchase. The highest-rated private schools include:

  • Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences. Located at 1714 21st Street, the Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences serves K-12th grades and is rated as the 32nd best private high school in California.
  • New Roads School. Serving K-12 students, New Roads School has a mission of liberating young people through the pursuit of equity, opportunity, and justice. The school is located at 3131 Olympic Blvd. and is rated as the 88th best private school in the state.
  • ​​​Pacifica Christian High School. Serving students in grades 9-12, Pacifica Christian High School is a liberal art, college-preparatory high school in the heart of Santa Monica. It has a solid visual and performing arts focus, as well as a challenging academic schedule and competitive sports.
  • Santa Monica Catholic High School. A coeducational parish high school for students of diverse faiths and cultures, Santa Monica Catholic High School’s mission is to help students who embody the Gospel message graduate and cultivate personal talents.
  • Lighthouse Christian Academy. Serving students in grades 9-12, Lighthouse Christian Academy has a small 8:1 student-teacher ratio and focuses on working with the parents of their students to help them achieve God’s purpose for their child.
  • St. Monica Catholic Elementary School. St. Monica Catholic Elementary School serves students in grades K-8. Though many of the students go on to high school at St. Monica Catholic High School, they are well-prepared to attend the high school of their choosing.
  • Saint Anne School. Located at 2015 Colorado Ave, Saint Anne School is for students in grades pre-K through 8. They have delivered a quality Catholic education for more than 100 years and focus on a challenging, innovative program using the Blended Learning Model.
  • ​​​​​Santa Monica Montessori. Serving early childhood through 8th grade, Santa Monica Montessori bases their program on the philosophy of freeing students’ potential by providing a stimulating and individualized environment.
